Pop in, get involved and see what has been done to date. We will have more sources of information and it would be great for you to bring your ideas for the weekend event.
Can we find a photo of every man who is remembered on the War Memorial?
In the run up to the 100 year anniversary of the commencement of WW1 we would love to find out more about the people of Overbury and the part they played in the war.
We are planning to have a weekend to share our findings, pay tribute to those who played a part in the war, and encourage further research. This will be centred around the Village Hall, a big fund raising picnic in Overbury Court gardens, a memorial service in the Church and much more….
Sir Richard & Mary Biddulph Martin were due to celebrate their Golden Wedding by inviting the people of Overbury to the Court for a party, this fell days after the outbreak of the war so all tea and music was stopped! We would love to remember those who played a part in the war by recreating this event as part of the weekend. Sir Richard was hugely influential in Overbury village, he founded the Cricket Club, found the architect Norman Shaw, built the Village Hall & the School, whilst also being a partner in Martins Bank, a JP, a MP, and a great traveller.
We will be updating the website with more information but if you are interested in helping us then please call the estate office or email firstname.lastname@example.org
